March 2021 Editor’s Note

We love this cover photo, vibrant colours, beautiful smiling faces and delicious chocolate! Coffee Works is one of the many local businesses who have met the challenges that COVID has presented with enthusiasm and creativity. They have continued to provide quality products and an amazing experience.  We have talked to many businesses on the Tablelands who have not experienced a severe economic downturn because locals are making extra effort to spend in our small shops. Even small purchases make a difference.

Local dollars being spent here mean that our region has continued to flourish without international tourists, and as a community we should be proud of this. It has been our pleasure to continue to support our local businesses by promoting “stay local” on the Tablelands.

With this in mind, Kuranda is one area of the Tablelands that has been hit hard by the lack of tourists. The photos and article by Paul Curtis on pages 6 & 7 provide ample inspiration to rediscover Kuranda and its unique “Village in the Rainforest” experience. Spend a day or a full weekend because there is plenty to explore including shopping, dining, tourist experiences, and the many rainforest walks available.

We hope you enjoy this issue of What’s On.
